The Olivia Act1 150x150 The Olivia Act | Northern Virginia The Olivia Act, named after one of the children killed in Newtown, CT, was started by a photographer who wishes to be anonymous. Olivia’s family had family pictures taken a short time before she was killed. Those pictures are precious and now priceless to them. Upon hearing this, this photographer was moved to give away a 30 minute family photo shoot and has challenged other photographers to do the same. We go about our daily lives and sometimes we don’t take the time or have the resources to have family photos taken.

I will be taking nominations for a family who you think would appreciate this gift. This session will take place after the New Year. I will be taking Nominations until December 31st . Please email me at bethmoskal@me.com or Facebook Message their name, contact information and a brief summary of why you chose them to: putting “THE OLIVIA ACT NOMINATION” in the subject line. The chosen family will be contacted via email or phone call. Please do not post their information here. The gift is a session and a collection of digital portraits, so they may have priceless keepsakes to adorn their home. Please share this status. Thank you. ♥

Photographers, please consider taking part in @The Olivia Act

Building a Kissing Booth

December 17, 2012

So you’ve probably seen me announcing my Valentine’s Day Mini session for January 12th & 13th.  I’ve mentioned the kissing booth but it’s now being built.  I am so excited!!!   It’s totally cute Cute CUTE!  I can’t wait to see it finished with your kiddos pucking up!

So I hope to finish the project soon so I can post samples with my little one so you can see the big picture.  It’s totally in my head right now…but I think you will LOVE it!  Don’t worry, this kissing booth is going to have MANY uses in the future.  I am thinking a lemonade stand in the summer, and maybe even a Girl Scout Cookie booth too!  Oooh…the possibilities are endless!

Most importantly I want to SEND a HUGE THANK YOU to my hubby!  He was so sweet to help me build this project and it only took him about a half hour!  He TOTALLY ROCKS!  Thanks again sweetie!

In the left picture you see the old fencing material that I will use.  The right is the frame of the booth.  On to sanding and staining!

Challenge Yourself!  Overcome Fear!

These statements are easy to make but not easy to put into action.

In the coming new year I am going to challenge myself in many new ways.  In the past year I have faced some challenges and have overcome most of them.  One was moving from Italy to Fairfax, Virginia.  I didn’t want to move and left Naples, Italy kicking AND screaming.  OK I didn’t ACTUALLY kick and scream but it’s what I felt it inside.  I am sure I voiced it a few times, but then I put on a smile, put on my big girl panties and got on that plane back to America.  I left behind my VERY dear friends, an awesome internship with Renee Williams, and the travel oh the travel.  But every day I put one foot in front of the other.

Then, I officially launched my photography business.  I always say things happen for a reason but we don’t always know why.  EVEN BAD THINGS happen for a reason…sometimes it’s so something REALLY GREAT can happen.  But we have to be patient it doesn’t always happen right away, but it happens.

So this past year I have gone out of my box and grown in many ways.  One of these ways have been learning to delegate (a very hard thing for me).  For those of you who know me stop giggling   Another challenge has been managing my time with my new business and four kids with very demanding schedules.  Finally, overcoming the FEAR of failure and starting my business.  One foot in front of the other.

Most of all I am so lucky to have a husband who has been very supportive of these new (and some old) challenges in my life.  Thank you honey for being there for me though it all!

Here is how I hope to continue to learn in grow in the coming new year…

I am going to enter the Rock the Shot monthly challenges.  Mainly to give myself a way to go out of the box and do something that’s for me, just for me.  Trying new techniques, coming up with new ideas.   I think doing something NEW is hard for many of us.  What ways do you go out of your box?

I would love to hear any constructive criticisms on these monthly photo challenges.  Don’t be too harsh…I am a softie maybe I will work on that in 2014.  <giggle>

Here is the December Photo Challenge:  Christmas Tree

Glam it Up!

December 9, 2012

Moufi Edit Glam it Up!

One portrait, Three Ways.  Which one do YOU like best?

So today I had an amazing day shadowing fashion photographer Michael Woodward. I like to take the time to learn new techniques.  By continuing my training I keep current and try to push the envelope of my art.  By doing this I am able to give my AWESOME clients the best products possible for a reasonable price.

Today I learned many things about lighting, even more camera settings AND new photoshop techniques. I was so inspired that I came home and re-edited one of my favorite Pin-Up photos.  I would love feedback.  So feel free to respond and let me know which one version you like best, love to hear your thoughts.

The first one is SOOC or Straight Out of Camera.  The second is my first edit of the picture.  The third is today’s re-edit I glammed it up bit.  What do you think?
